We measure every opening
Not one measurement but three: top, middle and bottom of each opening, because older houses move. We also check the reveal depth, the sill fall and whether the architraves can stay.
What it is
Two panes, a sealed gap, and a frame that stops the cold
An old aluminium frame is a bridge between the outside air and your lounge room. That is why it streams with water on a July morning and why the room never quite holds its warmth. A thermally broken frame with a sealed double-glazed unit solves both: the gas-filled gap insulates, and the break in the frame stops the metal carrying the cold inside.
You will not notice it by looking. You notice it in the first cold snap, when the glass stays dry and the heater switches off hours earlier.

How the job runs
From the first measure to the final adjustment
You receive a fixed written quote
Itemised per opening, with the frame colour, glass make-up and an install date range. It holds for 60 days and nothing is added later.
Manufacture, four to six weeks
Frames are cut and assembled at Hindmarsh, glazed, then stacked in the order they will be fitted. You get a firm install date once the glass lands.
Install and make good
Old frames out, new frames in, sealed, adjusted and cleaned. Most homes take one to three days, and we take the old aluminium away to be recycled.

Worth knowing
Three things we tell everyone at the measure
- Start with the worst rooms. The street-side bedrooms and the west-facing living area give the biggest change for the money. The rest can wait a year.
- Colour is not always free. Standard powder coats are included; a non-standard colour adds about two weeks and a small batch charge.
- Condensation can move. Fix the glass in one room and moisture may appear on the next coldest surface. That points to ventilation, not failed glazing.
Questions
About double glazing
Almost never. A double-glazed unit is thicker than single glass, but the frame carries that extra depth, not the wall. In timber-framed homes we sometimes pack the reveal by a few millimetres.
Usually, yes. We fit inside the existing reveal wherever it is deep enough, so the internal architraves and plaster are untouched. If yours will not allow it, we tell you at the measure.
Standard double glazing takes the edge off general traffic. On a main road or under a flight path, the acoustic laminate make-up is the one that makes the real difference, and it costs more.
Happily. Plenty of people start with the street-side bedrooms and do the rest a year later. The per-opening price is a little higher on small jobs because an install day costs the same.
Fogging means the edge seal has failed. Under the product warranty we remake the unit to the same size and refit it, and the frame stays in the wall.
